There is so much to experience in Lisbon, from visiting a gothic cathedral, strolling through the old quarters, or taking the trams as they make their way through the city. The constant presence of sunshine makes it more wonderful than it already is. But, where do you begin? Here are my five favorites that will help you plan your trip to this illuminated city.

1. A ride on the No. 28 tram is a highlight of any trip to Lisbon. The typical yellow tram is an attraction in itself. It passes through Lisbon's finest districts. Tram 28 will also bring you to most attractions. Get the 24-hour ticket that will allow you to hop on and hop off whenever you want.

2. Enjoy a beautiful view. Lisbon is littered with postcard-worthy views so this is easy. Walking around the city is almost always rewarding. One of the most beautiful views is from St. George's Castle but most main monuments offer breathtaking views of the city.

3. Let your taste buds explore the great food on offer. Portugal is renowned for its seafood so this is the time for you to indulge. Arroz De Polvo, a traditional Portuguese rice dish with octopus and fresh cilantro is a must try. Also, never leave Lisbon without trying Pasteis De Nata. It is to Lisbon what croissants are to Paris. It is a creamy egg tart pastry usually dusted with cinnamon. The best place to get it is at Pasteis De Belem, a pastry shop in Santa Maria De Belem, located on the west side of the city.

4. Avoid taking the beaten path and getting lost in Lisbon's narrow cobblestoned streets which tourists neglect to tread. There is something so captivating about getting lost in the city's medieval alleys. The Alfama quarter is Lisbon's oldest district and one of the most appealing neighborhoods. The beautiful view from the Lisbon Castle in Alfama is worth getting lost for.
